Mackinac Island for Summer 2006!

It's been ages since I last updated my blog! Too many things were happening: wrapping things up with work, packing, saying my goodbyes in AA, the usual thing before heading out for the summer. Now I'm currently managing and making candy at May's Candy Shop on Mackinac Island! I miss designing for the most part. I continue to update the BDC website and keep in touch with Dibuho Art. However, I may have found a freelance project up here on the island. Some locals need a logo – sweet! My favorite type of designing!

The last several weeks have been great: my friends from Ann Arbor had a chance to visit for the weekend, celebrated the 57th Annual Lilac Festival, started teaching ballroom dancing at the Grand Hotel, and hanging out at Sinclair's Irish Pub with my fort buddies! It's hard to imagine being back up here since 2003. At least I haven't forgotten how to make candy! Well enough about me, you can check out my new summer blog at Mack Isle 2006. Cheers!

Happy Green Day!

Happy St. Patricks Day! I don't think a lot of people know the true meaning of the holiday: The holiday is in recognition of St. Patrick who spread Christianity in Ireland. So families will usually go to church in the morning and then celebrate in the afternoon. Did you know the first St. Patricks parade was in the US? And did you know that Ireland orderd pubs to close on March 17 for religious reasons up until 1970? But most college students will get drunk anyway - so drink and be merry!

It's been awhile since I last updated this. But we won first place at the Arnold Youth Dance Competition! It was a honor to win against Purdue and Indiana but everyone had a lot of fun! Stephanie and I also did a showcase for the Business School recently so we've been dancing a lot lately. We have another showcase in two weeks. The team still competes at other colleges including Pitsburgh, Northwestern, Ohio, and MIT. We both haven't decided what competiton to go next before the end of the semester.

More stuff to come but it looks like I may be heading to Mackinac Island this summer. I will surely miss Ann Arbor when I do leave but I can always come back to visit. Stay tune folks!

6th Annual U of M Ballroom Dance Competition

The 6th Annual U of M Ballroom Dance Competition came and went. Everyone did well and we were impressed with the newcomer's performance. There was plenty of spectators and the Showcase was a success. I got a chance to meet Victor Fung and Anna Mikhed the following day at the Ballroom Dance Club's wrokshop - very nice folks.

Steph and I placed surprisingly well in several catagories, including American Smooth and Novice International Latin. I was glad to see Vicky and Kaye to check us out! You can check out more picks on my personal website!

In the meantime I've picked up another freelance job at a local furniture company: website updating and small graphic projects for floor shows and postcard reminders for clients. I've also received a few replies from California but nothing definite. I currently freelance for a LSA professor, music professor, and a jazz musician.

We have another dance competition coming next month at Columbus, Ohio. Arnold Schwarzenegger has a fitness weekend and this is the second time he's including ballroom dancing. So this will be my first Arnold, and perhaps my last, dance competition. Wish us luck!

Last Week at HMG

The HMG crew: Vicki, Tamir, Me, John, & George

It's a sad week here at the Housing Media Group. I still have like four projects that won't be completed but my boss, George, should be able to get the stuff done in time. I had my last weekly HMG meeting and already Tamir is working up a nice lunch for me this Thursday. I love the office environment, although the movie Office Space is always on my mind (highly recommended btw).

Working like there is no tomorrow (and yes, that is a pen in my ear)

I still have some freelance work that should keep me busy for the meantime. I'm currently working on a site for a jazz artist, a music professor, an LSA conference, and another personal site for a professor in Ireland. Then there's the ballroom dance scene which is also taking much of my time. Man I'd hate to leave Ann Arbor... Till then, check the notes & websites on my Blog. Good stuff!

My First Blog - woot!

So this is my first official blog! First facebook, now this! At least I'm finally catching up with my friends. As of this moment I'm at work, searching for another design job since my time is almost expired here at the Housing Media Group in the University of Michigan. It will be a sad day when it comes. For the past two months I've been searching, applying, emailing and such to many places even outside Michigan. Place's I'd like to move to are San Francisco and Chicago. I haven't given much thought to New York but then, it's a place I'd like to visit - no to live in.

Yet I'd hate to leave Ann Arbor since I'm still in the Ballroom Dance Team and have two competitions in the next two months. Stephanie would kill me if I move somewhere now. For the time being it looks like a temporary part-time job is up in the air. I'll still continue working as a freelance designer so hopefully things will pick up in that department. Wish me luck folks!
